Inside the Caldwell’s Learning Center: A New Educational Destination for Central Indiana

A Place Where Education Meets Real World Experience

Learning is most impactful when it extends beyond the classroom. At Caldwell’s, we’ve always believed that seeing a process firsthand creates a deeper understanding than simply reading about it. That’s why we’re excited to announce the Caldwell’s Learning Center, a new educational space located at our headquarters in Morristown, Indiana.

Designed to serve students, educators, businesses, and community organizations across Central Indiana, the Caldwell’s Learning Center provides a hands on opportunity to explore modern waste management, sustainability, recycling, composting, and environmental stewardship in action.

More than just a conference room, the Caldwell’s Learning Center represents our commitment to investing in the future of our communities through education. Whether you’re a local 4 H club, FFA chapter, school district, civic organization, or business looking to strengthen your sustainability efforts, our goal is to create an experience that inspires learning, sparks curiosity, and demonstrates how innovative environmental solutions make a lasting impact.

Why Caldwell’s Created a Learning Center

For more than 80 years, Caldwell’s has proudly served Central Indiana as a family owned company built on service, innovation, and community relationships. As our operations have expanded, so has our desire to share the knowledge we’ve gained with others.

Across every service we provide, including organics recycling, composting, depackaging, waste transportation, portable sanitation, storage containers, and transfer station operations, we’re often asked the same question.

“How does all of this actually work?”

The Caldwell’s Learning Center was created to answer that question.

We wanted a dedicated space where visitors could learn not only about what we do, but why it matters. Our team has witnessed firsthand how education creates stronger communities, develops future careers, and encourages sustainable practices that benefit everyone.

The Learning Center gives us the opportunity to open our doors and invite our community inside.

Designed for Learning

Located inside our Morristown headquarters, the Caldwell’s Learning Center is built to accommodate educational groups, business partners, and community organizations in a comfortable, technology driven environment.

The space includes:

  • Seating for up to 65 guests
  • Large classroom style tables and chairs
  • Three large display televisions
  • Integrated sound system
  • Presentation capabilities for educational workshops and discussions

Before stepping into our operations, visitors will begin with an interactive presentation that introduces Caldwell’s, our history, and the environmental services we provide throughout Central Indiana.

From there, the learning continues outside the classroom.

Experience Sustainability in Action

One of the most unique aspects of the Caldwell’s Learning Center is that education doesn’t stop with a presentation.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience our operations firsthand through guided facility tours.

Tours will include:

  • De-Packaging Facility
  • Organics recycling operations
  • Compost Facility
  • Sustainability initiatives
  • Environmental best practices

Rather than simply explaining sustainability, we want guests to witness it.

Visitors will see how packaged food waste can be separated from its packaging, allowing organic material to be recovered instead of ending up in a landfill. They’ll follow that journey to our Compost Facility, where those materials are transformed into nutrient rich compost that supports agriculture and improves soil health across Indiana.

It’s a powerful example of the circular economy at work, turning waste into a valuable resource.

For many students and business leaders, this will be their first opportunity to see what modern environmental innovation truly looks like.

Bringing the Spoil to Soil Program Full Circle

One of the most exciting opportunities the Caldwell’s Learning Center creates is expanding the educational impact of our Spoil to Soil program.

Spoil to Soil was developed to help schools divert cafeteria food waste from landfills through composting while teaching students about sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Students participating in the program don’t just separate food scraps. They become part of a much larger story.

Now, they’ll have the opportunity to visit Caldwell’s and see exactly what happens after their cafeteria bins leave school.

During these educational tours, students can follow the complete journey.

Food scraps collected at school become feedstock for composting.

Those materials are processed through our operations.

The finished compost is returned to the earth, enriching soils that help grow future crops.

Seeing that process firsthand transforms a classroom lesson into a real world experience.

Students begin to understand that sustainability isn’t just a concept. It’s something they’re actively contributing to every day.

Our hope is that these visits inspire future environmental leaders, agricultural professionals, engineers, equipment operators, scientists, and innovators who will continue improving how communities manage resources.

Supporting 4 H, FFA, and Agricultural Education

Agriculture and environmental stewardship have always gone hand in hand.

That’s why Caldwell’s is especially excited to welcome FFA chapters, 4 H clubs, agricultural education programs, and youth leadership organizations to the Learning Center.

Students interested in agriculture often learn about soil science, conservation, crop production, and natural resources in the classroom.

At Caldwell’s, they’ll see those principles put into practice.

They’ll learn how compost improves soil health, supports local agriculture, and reduces dependence on landfills by giving organic materials a second life.

For FFA and 4 H members exploring careers in agriculture, sustainability, transportation, logistics, or environmental services, the Learning Center offers valuable insight into industries they may not have previously considered.

These experiences help connect classroom instruction with career opportunities right here in Central Indiana.

Building Stronger Community Partnerships

Education doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens through partnerships.

The Caldwell’s Learning Center was designed to strengthen relationships with schools, businesses, municipalities, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders throughout Central Indiana.

We believe that when organizations work together, everyone benefits.

By opening our doors, we’re creating opportunities for meaningful conversations about sustainability, recycling, environmental responsibility, and innovative waste solutions.

Whether it’s hosting educators, welcoming local leadership groups, partnering with Purdue Extension, or working alongside businesses pursuing sustainability initiatives, our Learning Center serves as a gathering place where ideas become action.

These partnerships are essential to building stronger communities throughout Central Indiana.

Helping Businesses Reach Sustainability Goals

Education isn’t just for students.

Businesses across Central Indiana are increasingly looking for ways to reduce waste, improve sustainability, and meet environmental goals.

The Caldwell’s Learning Center gives business owners, facility managers, manufacturers, and organizational leaders the opportunity to better understand how waste diversion strategies can create measurable environmental benefits.

During tours, visitors will see firsthand how Caldwell’s helps customers:

  • Divert organic waste from landfills
  • Reduce disposal costs
  • Increase recycling efforts
  • Support environmental initiatives
  • Improve sustainability programs

Instead of discussing sustainability in theory, businesses can observe proven processes that demonstrate what’s possible when innovative waste solutions are put into practice.

Investing in the Future of Central Indiana

Every student who walks through our doors has the potential to become tomorrow’s engineer, environmental scientist, truck driver, equipment operator, business owner, teacher, or community leader.

Every business tour has the potential to spark new sustainability initiatives.

Every partnership has the opportunity to create lasting change.

The Caldwell’s Learning Center represents more than an expansion of our headquarters. It represents an investment in people.

We’re investing in education.

We’re investing in collaboration.

We’re investing in the future workforce of Central Indiana.

Most importantly, we’re investing in the communities we’ve proudly served for generations.
